Dalian Library - I am by no means an expert on architecture, but some buildings evoke a sense of beauty that can be appreciated by simply looking at them. Considering that we have the technology to design buildings that look like just about anything, why would you ever even build something ugly?
Case in point, this library for the city of Dalian (China): the curving exterior shell is conceptually derived from a rose, the city’s flower, blossoming towards the sky revealing a focal garden. The transparent structure is intended to create a strong relationship with the nearby ocean and it is positioned within a park setting, so the center will become a landmark for both residents as well as visitors while “serving as a symbol for creativity and environmental harmony to the community.”
