Augmented Reality - The concept of supplementing human perceptions with digital data hast truly vast potential;knowledge is power after all. However, augmented reality doesn’t stop there; what happens when we supplement our decisions with computational help as well?
Our decisions are (mostly) based on available data, and if we base them on data provided by someone else, we open the window to being manipulated by that someone. All of this is already happening. Need to decide what to eat for dinner? There’s an app for that. Want to know if that sandwich shop practices good cleanliness before you buy something? There’s an app for that too. But was that rating provided buy a competitor, the shop owner, or … ?
Like any other technology, augmented reality is neither good nor evil. It is just one more technological tool you have to learn how to control, or it will control you.
