Beyond Apollo - This is an amazing site full of space history. There have been many more space programs planned then were ever realized, and looking at the many concepts that didn’t make it (and the reasons why) is fascinating reading.

Beyond Apollo is space history chronicled through missions and programs that didn’t happen. There have, after all, been far more planned space missions and programs than flown space missions and programs. This approach to space history makes Beyond Apollo unique.

Aquanauts and Astronauts - this is a great video about the Ben Franklin submersible which was used (among other things) to gain experience with life support systems and confined habitation, as it drifted through the Gulf Stream for over 30 days. While the contemporary Apollo landings kind of stole the spotlight from this amazing voyage of exploration, it still was a great achievement all of its own.

Yesterday’s Tomorrow - check out this great collection of images depicting space stations which never got of the drawing board. It always fascinates me to see what people in the past thought our time would be like, because it is a vivid reminder that our own ideas about our future are just as certain to be similarly off the mark.

The International Space Station has been in orbit for a little over a decade now, and seeing just how many iterations of trial-and-error it took to get there makes you appreciate even more just how phenomenal an accomplishment that is.
